Alex and Matt

Hello, we’re Matt and Alex

Dear Mama, Thank you for taking the time read about us. Although we haven't met you yet, we have been praying for you and your baby and have been asking God to care for you both. It's hard to know what your world is like without having met you yet, but we already admire you for considering the loving decision of adoption.

We always knew adoption would be the way we would build our family since Alex has a medical condition that caused her to be born without a uterus and ovaries. We also know there are courageous moms like you out there looking for a loving family. Although we can't have biological children, we have provided a safe, loving, and nurturing home to our adopted daughter, and we are eager to bring another child into our life and love them with all our hearts.

We are so grateful you are considering us as a potential family for your child. If we are chosen as the adoptive parents of your child, we assure you we will love your child with all our hearts. We will be nurturing, affectionate, protective, and invested parents. We will give your child the best life we possibly can and give him or her every opportunity to succeed. We will also raise them to be loving, respectful, and kind toward others.

Our hope and dream for your child is that he or she will grow to be joyful, confident, big-hearted, and passionate about their skills and interests. We hope your child will know they are loved and treasured by us and by you. Again, thank you for taking the time to read about us. We don’t know what feelings this process holds for you, but we hope you feel a sense of peace as you learn about us.

Our Story

We like to joke that we met “the good old-fashioned way”: online! Within minutes of chatting, we both realized we had several mutual friends and many shared values, so we quickly hit it off and went on our first date. Matt was instantly drawn to Alex’s confidence, intelligence, humor, and smile. Alex was attracted to Matt’s tenderness, listening skills, hilariousness, and curls. We also share a strong Christian faith and were drawn to each other’s character.

Even from our first date, we were both pretty sure we had met “the one.” We couldn’t wait to keep spending time together. We would alternate weekends visiting each other in our respective cities in Washington, getting to know each others’ friends and families, and enjoying our two cities. In our dating days, we ate a lot of ice cream and sushi, enjoyed many long walks and talks, and took countless trips to parks and beaches. We got engaged after 100 days of dating (when you know you know, and we were in our 30s so knew what we wanted!), and six months later we were married on New Year's Eve. We are so thankful to have found each other.

We have been married now for almost five years. Our marriage is strong because it isn’t built on emotions that ebb and flow, but on the commitment we made to love each other and live that out each day. When we find ourselves in moments of conflict, we seek to understand each other and reconcile as quickly as possible. We trust each other deeply because we talk openly about all aspects of our lives with each other. The things we love most about our marriage are the tenderness with which we relate to each other, the freedom we have to be our most genuine selves (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and the unconditional love and grace we experience from each other when we fail.

We are the parents to one delightful daughter named Maggie. Maggie is almost two years old and is an absolute delight. We and others often describe her as good-natured, friendly, sweet, funny, sensitive, and happy. She is by all accounts a joy-filled, delightful child.

Our adoption story with Maggie is unique. We were put in touch with her birth mother through local acquaintances, and it turned out that Matt actually knew her birth mother from several years back, and Alex shared some mutual connections with her family. We all felt like God really orchestrated the connection. Maggie has been with us since birth, and we have a healthy relationship with her birth mother. We stay connected through text messages, sharing life updates, and enjoying regular visits. Our daughter grows up hearing her birth mom's name spoken with immense honor, respect, and deep love in our house. This relationship has brought so much peace and joy to our family.

Home sweet home

Our home is a charming craftsman home in a historic neighborhood in our town. It was built in the 1890s but received a major renovation in the late 90s. It’s a three bed, two bathroom with the master bedroom and a bathroom downstairs and a bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs. It’s a bright, open home with great natural light. The backyard is fenced and a mix of stone pathways and garden beds, all viewable from several windows.

In our home, we create memories and share love around the dinner table: eating and talking together, praying, reading our bibles, singing and playing board games. We also create memories by inviting guests over and decorating around the holidays. We love having a simple life together.

We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, which we love for its abundance of natural beauty and proximity to the ocean, mountains, and forest. We love experiencing all our state has to offer and enjoy hiking, camping, snowshoeing, and paddleboarding depending on what time of year it is. We love our neighborhood because it is walkable, quiet, and full of other young families. Our home is within walking distance of our local elementary school and three different parks/playgrounds.

Fun Facts

Our Values

  • Joy — We believe that life and all of God’s gifts are to be celebrated and enjoyed. This will look like having joy in both work and play, labor and rest. It will mean moving our bodies, laughing, and enjoying good food and the arts, especially music.

  • Generosity — We take Jesus at his word that it is better to give than to receive, so we serve with our time and money. We will teach our children to give from an early age, and we will do service projects together as a family to teach our children to be contributors to those in need.

  • Closeness — We prioritize close friendship with God, each other, our family, and a few spiritual companions we stay with for the long haul. We share honestly about ourselves so that we are truly known and loved. We will teach our children that they can share anything with us and we will always love them no matter what.

  • Simplicity — We choose to have a few quality items rather than many things to keep track of. We choose simplicity both in our possessions as well as our calendar, making sure we have time to be close as a family and to do the things we enjoy.

Our Favorite Things

  • Playing music both at home and at church (Matt on guitar, Alex on piano)

  • Going on camping trips or shorter day hikes

  • Trips to the library, spray park and beach with Maggie

  • Paddleboarding on the nearby lakes or bay

  • Gardening

  • Cooking and trying new cuisines

  • Bike rides around our neighborhood as a family

Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us and for considering us to raise your child. We take seriously the gravity and gift it would be to raise your little one.

If chosen, we promise to teach our child how loved they are not only by us but also by you. We promise to only ever speak about you with honor and respect for the loving decision you made for them. We are eager to maintain some connection with you as they grow (if that is what you want, too) and share photo updates, letters, and possibly even visits. We already love you and are praying for you and we hope to meet you soon.
